“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:4-5
We are full of praise and thanksgiving to God for the magnificent weekend of HomEComing festivities! It is such a blessing to see the Lord’s faithfulness continue through the generations here at EC, and to get to see those generations come together at these HomEComing events made it even more impactful!
Our Alumni and Friends Golf Outing teed off the HomEComing events on Monday, October 7 at Wallkill Golf Club in Middletown, NY. This growing event supporting the Athletic Booster Club raised almost $18,000 and brought together 88 golfers on a beautiful fall day.
This past Friday night the EC varsity boys soccer team faced off against Passaic Charter taking home a huge victory in front of a spirited crowd of students, families, and alumni. Food trucks lined up to serve tacos and pizza along with the ABC snack bar and swag shop. It was great to see so many from the community come out to support our boys team and enjoy the beautiful night.
Later that evening, alumni from the classes of 2015-2024 came together for Cannolis in the Courtyard, a brand-new event designed to create community among our most recent graduates. Alumni gathered in the gorgeously maintained high school courtyard for desserts, a hot chocolate bar, catching up on life, and friendly games of corn hole. Additional events are in the works for this group of alumni. If you’re interested in finding out more, please email alumni@suzhuan-sh.com.
Saturday morning festivities began with the Heritage Reunion Breakfast which celebrates and honors alumni that graduated from EC 50 or more years ago. This year’s breakfast brought almost 90 alumni together to fellowship and reminisce about their days at EC. Our guests enjoyed a devotion from Phil Verrengia (current faculty member and Class of 1973 graduate), beautifully sung hymns by Addie Peretti (current Drama Teacher and Class of 2018 graduate), a state of the school update from Head of School, Dr. Ruth Kuder, and an overview on the student internship programs, WINGS, from co-directors Ben Carapezza and Jess Lagerveld. The event concluded with a tour of the high school for that final trip down memory lane.
Girls JV and varsity volleyball teams both took their HomEComing victories over Waldwick High School at the Wyckoff campus gym. Fans came to cheer on both teams as they won both matches in two-game sets.
The Community Picnic at the Wyckoff campus brought in approximately 600 people to enjoy a beautiful day of fellowship, food, and FUN! Parents enjoyed catching up with friends and gathering as a school community. Kids enjoyed the inflatables, face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, and outdoor games. All enjoyed the free food – hamburgers, hot dogs, apple cider donuts from Abma’s farms, ice cream, and delicious samples of Korean food organized by our Korean parent community. Our sixth grade students and teachers put service into action by working together to sell cotton candy and friendship bracelets to raise money for Asheville Christian Academy, a school similar to ours that experienced major damage from Hurricane Helene. Thanks to the support of so many at the picnic, the sixth graders raised $1600 in cash along with additional online donations direct to Asheville Christian Academy.
During the picnic, we dedicated the brand-new turf field at the Wyckoff campus. The dedication included our partners from Stateline Soccer Club, the Wyckoff Township Committee, members of our School Board and Foundation Board, and student-athletes. This brand new turf field provides another state-of-the-art facility for our athletic program and creates a home field for Stateline Soccer Club. The dedication ended with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by Dr. Ruth Kuder along with EC and Stateline athletes. Immediately following the dedication, the alumni soccer game kicked off on the new turf field.
Back in the middle school gym, the Knockout Tournament had some great competition in the junior and adult divisions. And finally, HomEComing weekend concluded with the student dance in the high school gym.
Thank you to all our volunteers who served at this year’s picnic! We are so grateful for all you did whether it was helping people park, serving food, monitoring games, or setting up and breaking down. We could not have done it without you! We’ll see you next year!
